The FDA has recalled 28 beverages so far in 2024, according to The Daily Mail. The majority of these drinks were pulled from the market due to containing drugs, bacteria, or harmful chemicals that were not disclosed by the manufacture.

Recalled Beverages and Their Issues:

- Himalayan Pain Relief Tea:

This tea was recalled for not disclosing an anti-inflammatory medication ingredient on its label.

- Martinelli’s Apple Juice:

Found to contain arsenic, a toxic metal that may increase the risk of bladder and skin cancer.

- Fiji Water by Natural Waters of Viti Limited:

Around 1.9 million bottles were recalled after three types of bacteria and the mineral manganese were found in the water. High amounts of manganese can cause brain damage.

- Charles Boggini Company’s Drinks:

Four drinks, including Pink Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade X, and Cola Flavoring Base, were recalled due to undisclosed food dyes linked to cancer risk. The dyes, Red40 and Yellow 5, contain benzidine, a carcinogen.

- Cola Flavoring Base:

Also recalled for containing undeclared sulfites, which can cause allergic reactions, digestive issues, and asthma in sensitive individuals.

Expert Insights:

Dr. Detwiler, a former FDA and USDA advisor and food safety expert at Northeastern University in Boston, pointed out that drinks are sometimes sold to the public before undergoing proper checks. He emphasized that there has been increased scrutiny on labeling and undeclared ingredients in beverages recently.
